Review: Werewolf Run

This week FDTC writer Adam Holtzapfel shares his thoughts on Werewolf Run issues 1 & 2 from Daniel Leister.

Werewolf Run is currently a Kickstarter backed comic from illustrator Daniel Leister. With perks currently being worked out he was kind enough to give me a sneak peek at the first 2 issues of a 4 part series. If you’re a fan of films like The Howling and An American Werewolf In London, you will not be disappointed.

Book 1 starts in West Virginia where Mike & Alex are traveling home from Mike’s grandmother's funeral. Along the way they believe they are lost, stop at a gas station (c’mon we’ve all seen those movies, so you know what type of gas station it is). Once they leave there an accident occurs ending this book with a cliffhanger.

Book 2 picks up where the first ended while also showing flashbacks of military personnel hunting a werewolf that is reeking havoc. As expected this issue also leaves a cliffhanger.

So far what works for this series is the illustration and writing. It’s not your typical boy meets wolf story, it adds a new dimension to a genre you don’t see tackled too often.

Per the Kickstarter perks are on schedule to arrive in May. For those that missed out, keep an eye out for a second chance to score the trade paperback as well as him trying to get distribution for this 4 issue series. If you’re a horror fan you can’t go wrong with adding this to your collection next to his current series Lord of Gore, Nailbiter, and classic EC Comics.
